Location-Based Dating Mobile Application

A UK-based startup came with a clear product vision: a dating platform built around real-time proximity rather than endless swiping through static profiles. We delivered the full product — mobile application, web platform, and cloud backend — through an outsourced engineering team, from architecture to production launch.

Context & Challenge

Most dating platforms are built around asynchronous discovery: users browse profiles, swipe, and wait. The client wanted to challenge that model with a location-first approach — where proximity, real-time presence, and instant interaction are the core mechanics rather than an afterthought.

The challenge was technical as much as conceptual. Building a platform around live geolocation at scale requires a backend that can handle continuous location updates, a mobile application with responsive real-time behaviour, and a web interface for profile and account management — all tied together on a reliable, scalable cloud infrastructure.

Our Approach

We took ownership of the full product stack: a React Native mobile application for iOS and Android, a React JS web platform for the administrative and user-facing web experience, a .NET backend handling all business logic and real-time data, and an Azure cloud infrastructure designed to scale with user growth.

The focus throughout was on keeping the experience fast and fluid. Location-based features only work if they feel instant — latency anywhere in the stack breaks the core product promise.

  • Cross-Platform Mobile Application — A single React Native codebase delivering a consistent, high-performance native experience on both iOS and Android, with deep integration of device geolocation and notification capabilities.

  • Scalable Cloud Infrastructure on Azure — The full platform is hosted and orchestrated on Azure, with infrastructure designed to scale horizontally as the user base grows — ensuring consistent performance during peak usage.

By making proximity the primary discovery mechanic, the client offers a more immediate and contextually relevant way to connect — differentiating clearly from established players in the market.
